:the recovering over-sharer who never shares

heart: I wanna start writing again, it’s been like a decade since our last attempt

brain: (aka “controlled opposition”): why on earth would anyone need to know all of the weird things going on in our life, lol. Also, you legit used to scare people with your fearless vulnerability, remember?

heart: can we stop spiraling into the abyss of self-doubt again and just try, please?

brain: sure, but I can’t promise I’ll be able to stay on track with all these kids wrestling and shaking the whole house. very distracting.

heart: shhhh it’s happening

“Listen--are you breathing just a little, and calling it a life?” ― Mary Oliver

It’s nothing all that special right? The majority of our days raising four daughters in this old house are regularly spent on endless loads of dishes and laundry, eternally dusty baseboards, a PT position in carpool, algebra recovery sessions, shower drain sweaters, and forests worth of toilet paper, on repeat. fun :) Interspersed in between these things are all sorts of the way-less-mundane, but we’ll get to those another day. There are some exciting things happening too!

I feel convicted, and stirred up. If I hold this posture of devaluing these mundane, everyday realities, and then forget that each of them are in fact the fruit of a prayed-up decision Josh and I made, I just totally miss it - the JOY. Yea, I’ll forget again eventually… that’s the reality of having soul amnesia; but today, I remembered, and I’m thankful.

hang on a sec while I remind myself that…

four daughters = 3 baby girls who survived my body when 5 others didn’t, and 1 baby girl survivor who endured severe neglect before getting placed in our home and hearts forever

an old house = an acre of nicely-appreciating legacy land, with a sweet little home that has brought us so much beauty and joy, and loads of opportunity

dishes and laundry = the provision of a Father who considers the lilies and the sparrows, and gives us everything we need and more

dusty baseboards = living in a super walkable area with lots of traffic, but also fun markets, festivals, concerts, and pop-ups!

carpool = quiet time to listen to books or to Marco Polo friends, sitting in line to get my kids from programs/schools that challenge them in the best ways

algebra = dude I have three kids learning algebra - they’re healthy and smart and rocking it!

shower drain sweaters = ew. But I do love a good everything shower, don’t you??

toilet paper = I will spare you, but wow. We can go through a costco pack in a shockingly short amount of time. Girl probs.

*This was my warm-up writing exercise. I hope to be back here again shortly… I enjoyed wordmsithing :)

heart: see that wasn’t so bad..

brain: I do feel lighter and more organized. think we can try again next week?
